I started For Kids Who Cook when my then 9 year old daughter came to me and said, "Mom, I want to take cooking classes."
"Lauren," I said "I used to own a catering company. We cook together all the time. I'll teach you how to cook."
"No offense, Mom" she said, "I want a real school."
I wanted my kids to learn both the science and the art of cooking. Not just how to read a recipe and make proper measurements, but how to apply the knowledge they were learning in school for math, science and geography. And how to use good, wholesome ingredients to make something deliciously their own. I wanted them to have the same passion for cooking as I do because nutrition comes from ingredients, not packages!
And so I hacked off my arm, quit my corporate job and went back to what makes me happy. "Cook, eat and play" may be a tagline for our little cooking school here in New Hampshire, but it could just as easily be a summary of my days.
Since 2008 we've been teaching kids to cook through our classes, workshops and summer camps. In 2010 we've added parent/child cooking classes and adult cooking parties. Whether you are a child age 3 or 103, we hope you will come cook, eat and play with us!
